GALLERY PRESS RELEASE
akasha art projects (sic) welcomes this New Year with an exclusive photographic exhibition by award winning Vancouver based photographer David Ellingsen. In this body of work, entitled ‘Hibernus’, Ellingsen utilizes botanical subject matter to explore personal notions of natural order, the cycle of life, as well as kinship with, and disassociation from, one’s environment.  Use of the now discontinued Polaroid 55PN film has allowed Ellingsen to capture pure, organic images that demonstrate broad tonal range.  Hand processed and archivally printed, these photographs emanate a richness that makes each one strikingly beautiful and uniquely authentic.

CRITICAL MASS 2011 FINALIST

without comments

Whiptail

I’m very pleased to announce that the SEA/LIFE series has been moved forward into the final round of judging for this year’s Critical Mass award, part of the always wonderful Photolucida world.

“Critical Mass is a program about exposure and community. The idea is simple—photographers (from anywhere) submit a 10 image portfolio. This work is then pre-screened by a committee of approximately 20 great jurors. From those votes, the 200 top Finalists are determined. These 200 Finalists and their work go on to a jury of approximately 200 of the world’s best curators, editors, and other professionals who have agreed to view and vote on the Finalists’ work. Using these votes, at least one photographer is chosen to receive a book award and once the monograph is published, everyone who enters and juries will receive a copy of the book(s).”

DANA FARBER CANCER INSTITUTE ART COLLECTION

without comments

I’m very proud to announce some of my work has recently been acquired by Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center in Boston, Massachusetts for their world-class art collection. The Institute is a treatment facility associated closely with Harvard University and their collection contains works from a wide spectrum of artists including Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and Claes Oldenburg.
“We believe that art helps and encourages the healing process for patients and their families” says DFCI chairperson Jane Mayer, confirming the strong commitment to art therapy from the one of the United States’ premier Comprehensive Cancer Centers.

I feel greatly honored and am thrilled to be a part of this collection.
