EXHIBITION – VICTORIA COLLECTS: A VIEW INTO PRIVATE ART COLLECTIONS FROM THE REGION

without comments

Art Gallery of Greater Victoria
Future Imperfect I

From February 3rd, see work from the Future Imperfect series at “Victoria Collects: a View into Private Art Collections from the Region” at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria.

“Victoria Collects features more than 60 major artworks on loan from private collections across Victoria. These paintings, photographs, prints, sculpture, and drawings by artists ranging from Rembrandt, Andy Warhol, Piet Mondrian, Tom Thomson, E.J. Hughes, Betty Goodwin, to Ed Burtynsky illustrate the immense diversity in collecting styles and approaches that can be found in our region. Victoria Collects is more than a snapshot of fabulous individual pieces; it is a venue for narrative and exploration answering: Why do people collect? What drives them?”

Feb 3 – May 6, 2012
1040 Moss Street
Victoria, British Columbia
Canada
V8V 4P1

“The Art Gallery of Greater Victoria is a public art museum dedicated to the celebration of art. With vision, leadership and scholarship, we will engage and inspire diverse audiences through exhibition, interpretation and stewardship of the collection.”

GALLERY PRESS RELEASE
akasha art projects (sic) welcomes this New Year with an exclusive photographic exhibition by award winning Vancouver based photographer David Ellingsen. In this body of work, entitled ‘Hibernus’, Ellingsen utilizes botanical subject matter to explore personal notions of natural order, the cycle of life, as well as kinship with, and disassociation from, one’s environment.  Use of the now discontinued Polaroid 55PN film has allowed Ellingsen to capture pure, organic images that demonstrate broad tonal range.  Hand processed and archivally printed, these photographs emanate a richness that makes each one strikingly beautiful and uniquely authentic.

UYW Magazine Issue 19

The beautiful second anniversary issue of Australian on-line journal UYW was released today…an issue which focuses on artists using alternative methods in photography. This edition of Unless You Will was co-curated by founder Heidi Romano and Italy’s Fabio Severo and, along with my Hibernus series, includes wondrous work from Binh Danh (the chlorophyll printing process is breathtaking), Beth Dow and fellow Canadian Curtis Wehrfritz.
