MAYOR GREGOR ROBERTSON FOR MEN’S JOURNAL MAGAZINE

Men’s Journal requested a portrait of Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson to illustrate an article about the city and the 2010 Winter Olympics. I had photographed Mayor Robertson previously, during his election campaign, where he arrived to the shoot by himself, in a sharp suit and commuting on his bicycle…he had my vote right then.
SEACLIFF CONSTRUCTION CEO BILL CRARER

I spent a great 30 minutes with Seacliff Construction’s CEO, Bill Crarer, for HR Reporter magazine in early December. We had spectacular natural light in his office space, and after a quick first set-up with strobes in the boardroom, we spent the rest of the time taking advantage of it. Mr. Crarer was a gracious host and it was a pleasure discussing our experiences in China, especially as I had returned from there so recently. Seacliff Construction is a dynamic company with recent accomplishments including the Richmond Oval for the 2010 Winter Olympics and some of the Skytrain Stations on the new Canada Line.
SOLD OUT LECTURE AT VANCOUVER PHOTO WORKSHOPS

A quick thank you to Marc Koegel and Vancouver Photo Workshops for hosting a lecture with me…the first in the series “Careers in Photography”. Focusing equally on both the commercial and fine art sides of my work, I had 50+ people arrive on a rainy evening to hear about my experiences over the last 10 years. I was honored by their interest in me and my career to date. Lots of great questions and interaction.
A few people have been asking me for the list of the photo competitions I mentioned as being important (of the ones I am aware of anyway) so here they are again:

BC BUSINESS MAGAZINE + JIM PATTISON
BC Business magazine’s latest cover story “Words from the Wise” includes advice from billionaire entrepreneur Jim Pattison whom I had photographed aboard his yacht, the Nova Spirit, some time ago. The image is included here on the content page and again within the article itself. After the shoot, I got to talking with Mr. Pattison about business, marketing and the opportunities now available due to the internet. Not everyday that one receives advice from one of the world’s most savvy business people.
His advice in the article is as follows:
“My dad, when I was very young, told me always to be very honest. I never forgot it.
I’ve lived by his words ever since, and if anybody asks me for advice, I tell them the same thing.”
Jim Pattison – Managing director, CEO and chair, the Jim Pattison Group
