FEATURED IN PHOTO DISTRICT NEWS ONLINE

without comments

A feature article from Photo District News online, Photoserve, was published today about the installation in BC Place Stadium. I was interviewed about the project in relation to the renovations for the 2010 Winter Olympics and beyond. The resulting write-up, sent out by email newsletter to 15,000 Creatives, is an in-depth story on the shoot itself, the production behind it and working with DDB Canada/Karacters here in Vancouver.

I always check out these newsletters for industry info, updates and interesting articles from one of the original online sources for the photography industry. If you’re interested you can sign up for future newsletters of the Photoserve News here.

Here’s how the article looks:

BC Hydro Power Smart Village at the 2010 Winter Olympics

Had a great time on this shoot…Lisa was certainly the right choice…

“Come celebrate the spirit of the 2010 Winter Games at the Power Smart Village, a family-friendly exploration of sustainability, BC Hydro history and more. Create an inspirational message on the digital expression wall, tour our “future is now” home exhibit, or cheer on our athletes while you watch competitors live on a big screen. You can even create electricity by dancing on our sustainable dance floor. It’ll be great fun, and by sharing your energy, you may even win tickets to the Games.”

MAYOR GREGOR ROBERTSON FOR MEN’S JOURNAL MAGAZINE

Blog-shotGregorRobertson_081-5x7

Men’s Journal requested a portrait of Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson to illustrate an article about the city and the 2010 Winter Olympics. I had photographed Mayor Robertson previously, during his election campaign, where he arrived to the shoot by himself, in a sharp suit and commuting on his bicycle…he had my vote right then.

ROCK CLIMBING ANYONE?

without comments

_79H8595

Recently photographed local rock climber Joel Lafortune out at Lighthouse Park in West Vancouver. One of my favorite locations in the area with a dramatic rock face straight down to the ocean…and happily just enough space to balance a light stand. Assistant Marc not only got to help out moving gear but, as the photograph above shows, was literally at the end of his rope helping Joel to stay safe under less than perfect conditions.

EXHIBITION AT ‘THE CENTER FOR FINE ART PHOTOGRAPHY’ IN COLORADO

Future Imperfect 6

I have been one of those selected from 2300 entries to exhibit in the group show “Elements of Water” opening on March 5th, 2010. This exhibition will be at the Center for Fine Art Photography in Fort Collins, Colorado, USA.

The entries were juried by John Paul Caponigro, an acclaimed educator, curator and artist in his own right. As his biography says, Mr. Caponigro’s motivation comes from “inspiring conscientious creative interaction, my life’s work is a call to connection with our natural world, with each other, and with ourselves.” That got my attention.

Amazing assistant Rob shows us how it's done

Amazing assistant Rob shows us how it's done

Had a great shoot mid-December with DDB for BC Hydro…results posted soon.

During the 2010 Games, BC Hydro will be opening the doors to the BC Hydro Powersmart Village, celebrating the Games in a spirit of conservation and sustainability.

Art Director Daryl Gardiner, Account Supervisor Terra Cochrane and Print Producer Amanda Dring came to the new studio on 7th Ave West for the shoot. Model Lisa C. from Liz Bell Agency supplied enough energy to keep BC Hydro in business for the rest of the winter…jump, jump, jump! Hooray for those little trampolines.

Thanks also to stylist Leila Bani and makeup artist Sonia Leal Serafim from THEY Representation.

See more about energetic assistant Rob Seebacher here.

MODERN PHOTOGRAPHY

without comments

Picture 4

Alongside heavy hitters Diane Arbus and David LaChapelle (and that is just the “D” section), my work has recently been added to Poland’s gorgeous ModernPhoto website. An inspirational site of international photographers…worth a look for anyone interested in photography.

Here’s a bit of information from their website (translated from Polish):
“MODERNPHOTO, most of all, is a subjective collection of the best photo galleries available on the net. On our site we place only carefully selected photography galleries and artists. MODERNPHOTO is for those who are searching for professional photographers, want to check how professional photographs are taken or are just looking for inspiration. Our main purpose is to promote good photography and present interesting artists and their work. The MODERNPHOTO.PL website shows what modern photography is and can be.”
