Even with the cooling effect of La Niña, 2021 was the sixth hottest year on record, making the last eigth years the eight warmest in the history of climate recordings. It was also the 45th consecutive year with temperatures above the 20th century average.
While there were many extreme climate stories in 2021 the most shocking was the heat wave that enveloped the Pacific Northwest, an event surpassing the projected worst case scenarios in the advance of increasing global temperatures.
